UFC on FX 2 is going to be hosted at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia this weekend. The fights will air live on FX and Fuel on Friday night with the main card kicking off at 9PM ET. In Australia it will actually be Saturday, but for most of us it will only be Friday, so make sure you get your bets in before the fights. We’ve posted our predictions for the main card below and although the odds are brutal in a couple of the fights there should be at least two closely contested match-ups.
UFC on FX 2 Main Event Odds & Predictions
Thiago Alves -135 vs. Martin Kampmann +115
Thiago Alves (19-8) and Martin Kampmann (18-5) are both looking to reenergize their careers and will meet in the main event at UFC on FX 2 this weekend. Both fighters have battled with inconsistent results, but they both have won their last fight. Thiago was able to beat Abedi by submission in the 1st round and Kampmann beat Story by split decision. Kampmann’s last four fights have gone to a decision and Alves has gone to decision 5 of his last 6 fights.
Both of these fighters have knockout power, but I think Alves is going to win the fight. Alves seems like he’s getting on track and I think he’ll get back into contention in the division. Kampmann is going to be tough due to his technical striking style and Alves will have to make sure he doesn’t get popped. I also like this fight going to decision.
UFC on FX 2 Main Card Odds & Predictions
Demetrious Johnson -320 vs. Ian McCall +260
Joseph Benavidez -950 vs. Yasuhiro Urushitani +625
Court McGee -125 vs. Costantinos Philippou +105
Demetrious Johnson (14-2) should be able to beat Ian McCall (11-2), but it’s going to be close. Look what happened at UFC 144 with big favourites getting smoked. This is going to be a Flyweight division fight and should be interesting. Johnson has a bit more experience and both fighters have a loss against Dominick Cruz. McCall could win, but I’m on Johnson to get the decision victory after utilizing his ground game.
Joseph Benavidez (15-2) should have no problem beating Yasuhiro Urushitani (19-4). These two fighters have also jumped into the new Flyweight division to determine the 1st Flyweight champion. The winner of this fight and the Johnson vs. McCall fight will fight for the new Flyweight belt. Benavidez should easily win and to tell you the truth I don’t much about Urushitani. The problem is the odds are brutal and definitely not even worth betting.
Costantinos Philippou (9-2-1) is one of my favourite middleweight fighters and I’m betting on him to beat McGee. I need a dog on the main card and I like Philippou. I had him when he knocked out Hamman in his last fight and I’ll take him again. McGee is 14-1 in his career and is going to be a tough test for the big Greek fighter. If Philippou can connect he can do damage and I think he’s hungry to continue moving up the middleweight division.
UFC 144 is this weekend and the event is going to be hosted in Japan at the Saitama Super Arena. There are a whopping 7 fights on the main card at UFC 144, as the UFC wants to put on a great show for their Japanese fan base. The PPV action won’t start until 10PM and with 7 fights on the main card it could be a long night for a lot of us.
UFC 144 Main Event Preview
Benson Henderson +110 vs. Frankie Edgar -130
Benson Henderson (15-2) is challenging Frankie Edgar (14-1-1) for the Lightweight Championship at UFC 144 in Japan. Edgar won the title against Penn and has defended it against Penn in a rematch and twice against Maynard (Draw & Win). Henderson lost to Pettis in his last WEC fight, but he has gone 3-0 in the UFC with wins over Bocek, Miller and Guida.
Henderson has been a huge problem in the cage due to his aggressive fighting style. He never slows down in the cage and he should be able to match the cardio of Edgar. Edgar isn’t a powerful fighter, but he’s relentless and smart in the cage. Edgar will need to try and take the fight down while Henderson needs to use his reach advantage. I’m taking Henderson to win the title off Edgar.
UFC 144 Main Card Preview
Ryan Bader (13-2) +200 vs. Quinton Jackson (32-9) -240 (Prediction – Quinton Jackson)
Mark Hunt (7-7) +250 vs. Cheick Kongo (17-6-2) -350 (Prediction – Cheick Kongo)
I recommend betting on some of the favourites early if you want to bet them straight or on your parlays. I expect the odds to go up on some of the favourites before this weekend including Jackson and Kongo. I think Jackson is going to put on a show in Japan, as he’s fought in the Saitama Super Arena with PRIDE.
If you noticed the only underdog I have this weekend is in the main event. I just don’t think the dogs will be barking at UFC 144 after going through and looking at the fights. Shields is going to be a close fight and I don’t like the odds considering he hasn’t been great recently. Akiyama could be out of the UFC is he doesn’t win, so the pressure will be on him in Japan and he may surprise some of us.
The Fight of the Night should end up going to Henderson and Edgar, as I expect a 5 round battle between these two warriors. Two other fights that could be FOTN in my opinion are the Jackson vs. Bader and Lauzon vs. Pettis fights. I like Rampage to possibly win the Knockout of the Night (KOTN) if he can hand Bader his first knockout loss. Kongo should also win by knockout, but it may not be that impressive against Hunt. For the Submission of the Night (SOTN) I’m betting on Pettis to submit Lauzon.
The UFC will be making their debut on Fuel TV this Wednesday. We’re posting our picks a bit later than usual, but that’s because the event is in the middle of the week. The main card looks solid for UFC on Fuel 1 and we’ve got picks for each pick. It isn’t often that UFC bettors get the chance to win some money on Wednesdays, but that’s what we’re going to try and do this week.
UFC on Fuel 1 Main Event Odds & Predictions
Jake Ellenberger -340 vs. Diego Sanchez +280
Jake Ellenberger (26-5) is a huge favourite in this fight, but it’s hard to bet against him right now. Ellenberger made his UFC debut in 2009 and lost by split decision against Carlos Condit. Since that loss Ellenberger has picked up 5 straight wins with 4 of those wins coming by the way of TKO/KO. Diego Sanchez (23-4) is on a 2-fight win streak, but he’s coming back into the cage after breaking his hand and having to miss almost a year. I like Ellenberger to impose his will in the stand-up game and stuff Diego’s takedowns.
UFC on Fuel 1 Main Card Odds & Picks
Dave Herman -145 vs. Stefan Struve +125
This is a fight that I’m looking forward to this week at UFC on Fuel 1. Dave Herman (21-2) and Stefan Struve (22-5) both have very impressive records and are excellent finishers. I definitely think this fight ends by stoppage and I’m going to be betting on Herman to pull off the victory over Struve. Herman has 15 TKO/KO wins while Struve has 15 submission wins and this fight will come down to what fighter can execute their game plan. I haven’t seen much of Herman, but Struve has been inconsistent lately.
Stipe Miocic -400 vs. Phillip De Fries +325
Two undefeated fighters will be meeting on the main card this week. Stipe Miocic (7-0) and Phillip De Fries (8-0) both have 1 victory in the UFC and will be putting their undefeated MMA records on the line. Miocic has a lot more hype coming into this fight and he has a ton of power to back that hype up. However, De Fries has 7 submission victories out of his 8 career wins. Miocic should win the fight, but he needs to make sure that he doesn’t get submitted by De Fries.
Ronny Markes -125 vs. Aaron Simpson +105
Ronny Markes (12-1) is on a 5 fight win streak and will be fighting Aaron Simpson (11-2). Simpson lost 2 fights in 2010, but has since picked up 3 straight wins. Simpson has the edge in wrestling in this fight and if he takes the fight to the ground he should win the fight by decision. Markes is a powerful striker and can also submit fighters, but Simpson is going to be a tough match-up because of his excellent wrestling. I’ll take the small underdog with the edge in the wrestling department in this fight.
T.J. Dillashaw -275 vs. Walel Watson +235
This fight should be closer than the odds indicate and I’ll take a shot on Walel Watson (9-3) against T.J. Dillashaw (4-1). Dillashaw started off his career 4-0, but was knocked out by John Dodson in the 1st round. Watson lost his last fight against Yves Jabouin, but it was a very close split decision loss. Watson has a huge reach advantage in this fight and he’ll need to use it in this fight. Dillashaw will look to take the fight to the ground, but Watson is capable of submitting Dillashaw from his back.
