UFC Fight Night Results

UFC Fightnight was an ok fightnight the ones you think will be fantastic are usually a let down this one was ok. The fights on TV results were

Alessio Sakara v James Irvin

Having watched the weigh-ins on Saturday night James Irvin just didn’t look good, he’s been out for a long time and looked to have had a really hard time to make 185lbs for the 1st time, and it showed in this fight, although he looked lean we think it is to much for him to drop.

The fight was a stand up boxing fight with Sakara getting the better of Irvin for most of the fight it ended 3 minutes into the 1st round when Sakara caught Irvin right in the eyeball with a left hook, Irvin winced and couldn’t open his eye for about 4 minutes the referee had no choice but to stop it as it was not an illegal blow.

  • Result: Sakara win by TKO

Cheick Kongo v Paul Buentello

Cheick Kongo is one of my favorite fighters and I had no doubt that he would win this, I thought it would be a stand up war but Kongo surprised everybody by constantly taking Buentello to the ground, and he did so with ease. When there he managed to get some very heavy knees in, he had a point deducted for catching him once in the head.

You have to give Buentello credit though during the fight he dislocated his little finger which looked painful but the fight was paused the doctor popped it back in and they got back at it, it didn’t make much difference to the fight though by round 3 Buentello had taken a beating and finally tapped out when Kongo was elbowing him right on his him bone, he just took to much damage throughout the fight and gave up.

  • Result: Kongo win by Tapout

Junior Dos Santos v Gabriel Gonzaga

Two big Brazilians in this on and the young Dos Santos’s biggest test to date, I actually fancied Gonzaga in this one, very experienced and a dog with the bookmakers so he looked like good value but Dos Santos proved that he is the real deal, his stand-up is very good and when he connects you go down.

During the fight you could see that it was only a matter of time until he would connect and he did in the 1st round when Gonzaga went for a left body kick dropped his right hand while doing that and Dos Santos was quick to see the opening and nearly take his head off with the left hook, Gonzaga went down Dos Santos pounced on him and finish him with punches to the head knocking Gonzaga out.

  • Result: Dos Santos win by Knockout

Jon Jones v Brandon Vera

Jon Jones has a lot of hype surrounding him and at only 22 has his whole carrier in front of him on the other hand this was his biggest test to date, Vera is no joke and a very experienced fighter. At the weigh-ins Jones looked really pumped up and started the fight that way to.

He immediately took Vera to the leaning on him in his guard getting off some punches and elbows, Vera’s guard is good and you can see the Jones is inexperienced leaving his arms available for submissions, had he been against a Jujitsu expert he could of got submitted but he wasn’t he was facing Vera. Vera made an illegal up kick catching Jones in the face and was deducted a point for that.

Jones decided that they should get back in the same position and he was right to do so, he caught Vera with a lethal left elbow that made him wince, and then caught him with a second, Vera turned away taking a few more shots before the ref jumped in to stop it, I wouldn’t be surprised if Vera’s face is broke but Jones although he has some holes in his game at 22 this guy is a beast expect a big future for him.

  • Result: Jones by TKO
